Her Majesty: Christina Anderson

By Jean Flynn Ray January 18, 2018

The Children’s Chorale is Pueblo’s premier organization for teaching kids a love of music. And, Christina Anderson has been the driving force behind the Pueblo Children’s Chorale for 22 years. Due to her dedication to music and performance education, Christina volunteered her time and expertise to the Chorale for the first ten years. Today the Chorale is comprised of 48 children in 2nd to 8th grade who learn to read music, establish lifelong friendships, acquire important leadership skills and travel the country sharing their joy.

But the joy of the Children’s Chorale is not the only joy that Christina Anderson shares with the people of Pueblo. A longtime performer, Christina was employed for five years by the Colorado office of the infamous Eastern Onion singing telegram company. She was primary performer for southern Colorado, but traveled up and down the Front Range sharing the unexpected fun of a singing telegram with hundreds of celebrators. When the Colorado office closed in 1996, Christina thought that this chapter of her career was also closed.

Then in 2010, she was approached with a need for local holiday carolers to perform up and down Union Avenue. It was then that Christina launched Upon A Star, a custom entertainment company. In addition to Christmas carolers, Upon A Star, provides singing telegrams, princess parties and super heroes for every occasion.

The joy that Christina Anderson contributes to Pueblo doesn’t stop with the Children’s Choral and Upon A Star entertainment. Due to her meaningful work in the community, Christina has received significant accolades in the last year. She was honored as a Community Service award nominee by the YWCA’s Tribute to Women. Additionally, she has been recognized by the “Best of Pueblo” as the Best Performer for the last four years.

So, what brings joy to this woman that spreads so much joy herself? Smiles! “It’s all about the smiles on people’s faces,” shares Christina. With a singing telegram, “You get everyone’s attention and pleasantly surprise someone. It’s such a special gift and a thrill for me.”

If you would like a thrill yourself, don’t miss the Pueblo Children’s Chorale spring concert which will be held on Saturday, May 5, at 3 PM at CSU Pueblo’s Hoag Hall, 2200 Bonfore Blvd. Tickets are only $5 and can be purchased at the door or from Chorale members.
